Hey  all,

Had some real productive week on the 428 cj. Scott put the finishing touches on the frame repair and Bill r&r'd the brake lines. (removed and replaced).

Starting to get real anxious to get the the car back into fighting form... Thanks for everyones encouragement and help

Most of you know that the engine was pulled do to oil ingesting into the two back cyinders and fouling the plugs.

The Engine short block was done by Russel Baker Racing in Grove, Ok.
Block was at 0.040 over so they honed for moly rings and ordered pistons at 0.041. Target is to get 450hp and still have it idle and have enough vacuum for the pwr brakes!

The new cam is from Comp. Gross lift is .562 int and .565 exh.
Duration is 274 int. and 286 exh. Rpm range 1800 - 6000
Should have a real strong mid range

I'll post more as it happens!  Take care

Progress is slow but it's getting there.  Keep finding things in the engine bay to clean, degunk, strip or spot putty before paint.

Picked up some DP90 semi gloss - 2 part epoxy for the engine bay and inner fender well's.  If this warm weather holds out I might get some paint shot!

Taking my time - don't want anything to bite me in the posterior once I start mixing paint...

Picked up a cool tool at the chinese tool shop (harbor Freight)

Duplicated the spot welds real well.  Not quite big enough on the weld puddle distortions but still acceptable to me.  Sure saves some time over the plug welds with the mig!  Big plus is no grinding!!

Arron from Missouri Mustangs came over and we hung the hood and fenders to see where we were at as far as adjustments in and out for the inner fenders.  Made some small adj. out and welded everything up solid!

Engine is one head port and polish away from being put together and test run.!!  See ya soon

After a ton of work prep I shot the DP epoxy primer. So now I will come in from the top and shoot the black semi-gloss.

As I recall - as the mustangs came down the line at the factory, iron oxide primer was sprayed up under the body, covering the underside. after it dried, before the engine was installed, a painter sprayed the engine bay with a black semi-gloss.  No attempt was made to cover all the red oxide from below.

I got a bit carried away as I primered up the shock tower lol, but all that will be covered in black so no problems.

So far so good...

The DP epoxy is easy to work with

I'm ready for some asprin and a beer chaser!  LOL

J Cagle - LOL!

No, the engine will be 1969 ford corporate blue.  I will break-in and tune on a test stand, then paint the engine as an assembly just before we install it.

Got the engine bay shot - thank you Lord for the nice warm weather!!!

The DP90LF from Baker color did a great job. I really had to work hard to get it to run. All new Ford cars from this era had runs in the paint.  I made sure they were small and at the bottom so looking down into the bay you wouldn't see them.    Didn't have the heart to mess all this work up!! LOL
